About Baltimore

Baltimore is a small village situated on the South Coast of Ireland. It has a permanent population of just over two hundred people but during the summer this increases tenfold with visitors to the area some of whom return year after year.

Fishing and the seas has always played an important part in the history and economy of Baltimore and in the not too recent past Baltimore was a very important fishing port. Unfortunately the fishing industry has declined countrywide and there are currently only a few boats operating out of the port.

However leisure activities have really taken off over the last number of years and Baltimore is the ideal location for anyone interested in the Sea. Baltimore boasts three sailing schools and two diving schools. It is also possible to learn to Kayak. Other activities on offer include Sea angling, Whale watching or trips to one of the nearby islands.

Baltimore enjoys a milder climate than almost anywhere else in the country, due to our extreme southerly position and because of the warming influence of the Gulf Stream. We rarely get very cold weather. Sharp frosts are rare and snow. almost unheard of.

Local wildlife, including a number of rare birds, also enjoy our mild climate.

Baltimore boasts a number of fine restaurants and pubs which are usually full during the busy Summer months.

We hope you come and visit us and we’re sure you enjoy a relaxing stay with us.
